12th Hurricane Showdown

While in Fort Lauderdale of Thanksgiving Weekend on Friday, 24 November I'd capture the gay and lesbian South Florida Amateur Athletic Association (SFAAA) softball league's 2006 Hurricane Showdown which took place at Mills Pond Park. When clicked, the photo to the left will connect to my 2006 SFAAA Hurricane Showdown photoset. Which will take a few days to complete since I have other projects underway.

Gay Life Travel Expo - Fort Lauderdale FL 12 December

When Steven Levenberg met Matthew Bank and joined forces in September 1999, Consolidated Management Associates, now HX Media LLC, became the first gay-owned and operated consumer event company. At that time, heterosexuals operated the only events devoted to gay consumers. Recognizing gay business owners would better reflect the wants and needs of our community, Levenberg and Bank came together to create the first real Gay Life Expo. That first event successfully premiered September 9th and 10th, 2000 with 130 exhibitors.

Over the years, the Gay Life Expo New York has grown to nearly 300 exhibitors and upwards of 20,000 attendees annually. Ten Gay Life Expos have been produced in six years, with more cities and events planned for the future. The Expo Division of HX was built upon the mission of producing event for our community that are relevant and real, that reflect the aspirations and diversity of our lives. HX Media LLC, brings our community together.

Though not officially associated with Levenberg or Bank, in April 2004, Andrew P. Segrest and Bill Harrison will produce the first Gay Life & Wedding Expo in Washington DC. An important trend that had been first been launched by Levenberg and Bank with the September 200o Gay Life Expo NYC.
Moving forward and apparently throughout the global community over the past 15 years Steven Levenberg and Matthew Bank have created several successful ventures, catering to the gay community, including the Gay Life Travel Expo. Which, a first installment will take place on Tuesday, 12 December at the Embassy Suites in Ft. Lauderdale.
A second installment of the Gay Life Travel Expo will take place two days later on Thursday, 14 December, from 4 - 8 pm at The Marriott Marquis in Atlanta.

Sun Trolley comes to Fort Lauderdale

To the best of my recollection I had not observed Sun Trolleys during any of my previous visits to Fort Lauderdale. So when observing a Sun Trolley, along A1A, in Lauderdale By The Sea on 14 November I'd ask Richard if Sun Trolley was new to Fort Lauderdale. He said that he did not recall having seen one, in the past. When checking the internet, I'd lear that the Sun Trolley was introduced to Fort Lauderdale in May 2006.

Ride By Shooting (Karmann Ghia)

En route to Lauderdale By The Sea on Tuesday afternoon, 14 November, from the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport in the process of my "Drive/Ride By Shootings" series along A1A I'd capture this old Karmann Ghia which was a two-seater sports car marketed by Volkswagen, designed by the Italian firm Ghia, and built by German coach builder Karmann. Over 445,000 Karmann Ghias were produced between 1955 and 1974 according to Wikipedia.

MARC train 'ride by shootings' from Union Station to BWI

When travelling by MARC train on the morning of 14 November, from Union Station in WDC to BWI for my flight to Fort Lauderdale I inquired of the train conductor if I may take photos from/through the train's windows which I refer to as 'Ride By Shootings'. When he inquired why, I explained that as a freelance photographer my many interests include the documentation of old railroad stations. Several which are along the MARC Train routes.
